Hello Parents,
My name is Ms. Alston. I am your child’s fifth grade teacher this year. A little about me, I’ve been teaching for the past eighteen years. Teaching is a second career for me, I was an accountant for ten years prior to going into teaching; it is the one that’s given me the most joy. I have my degree in business, accounting and early childhood education. Using my two prior degrees, I’ve worked a number of years in the corporate world in the financial industry. It was through working with my son, who was an elementary school student at the time, that I grew to love the field of education and working with the young.
I am looking forward to working with your children this coming school year. I do have an online newsletter, that is uploaded to my blog weekly. In the first week I will be discussing a number of things, in particular, basic classroom rules and how discipline is handled in the classroom. The newsletter will also be used to keep you up to date with what’s going on at school and in our virtual classroom.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me here at Powers Ferry, at 770-578-7936. The staff in the office will take your message and put it in my mailbox. Which, I check several times throughout the day. You can also email me at [email protected]. I check my email even more often than my mailbox, thus this is an even better means of contacting me. Again welcome to you and your child, I look forward to a great school year!
